  • Keywords : The main purpose of this research is to examine the event effect and problem solving skills of alcohol users depending on their addiction profiles. In this research, survey method, one of the quantitative research designs, was utilized as a method. The population of this study consists of individuals in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The sample of the study consists of 384 individuals aged 18 and over selected by purposive sampling method. In the findings of the study, it was found that there was a significant and positive relationship between the levels of reexperiencing, avoidance and over-arousal, which are the impact of events scale and its sub-dimensions, and the levels of problem solving skills and its sub-dimensions: thinking about the effects of the solution of the problem, problem solving through modeling, searching for alternative solutions, determination in applying the determined solution and analyzing the problem encountered. Similarly, it was found that there was a significant and positive relationship between the levels of the impact of events scale and the addiction profile index's addiction severity, substance use characteristics, diagnosis, effects on life, severe craving and motivation sub-dimension levels. In this context, the following suggestions can be made for clinicians: Therapies can focus on improving the problem-solving skills of individuals with alcohol use. Therapies can be directed towards the development of problem solving skills through determination in implementing the determined solution, researching alternative solutions and modeling.
