Abstract

Abstract

The fact that the largest enterprises of developing countries are banks and that the crises that the banking sector will experience affect the economy of the whole country, make the banking sector important. It is seen that the most important users of derivatives markets in all countries are banks. However, while this usage is intense in some banks, it is less in others. While some banks use it for trading purposes, some banks use it for speculative purposes or for hedging purposes. In the study, it was investigated whether the Turkish banking sector was also affected by the use of derivatives in terms of public, private, foreign, participation and deposit bank types and whether it was affected by the variables of size, profitability, liquidity, asset structure, financial distress and financial stability between 2010 and 2019. As a result of the study, it was determined that derivative products were used for hedging and profitability. In addition, it was determined that the financial stability index, profitability and financial distress variable was effective in the use of derivatives in all banking types, the size variable was effective for participation banks and the liquidity variable for private deposit banks.
