Abstract
Napolyon’un Mısır seferi ile birlikte Arap edebiyatı, “Modern Arap Edebiyatı” diyebileceğimiz bir evreye/aşamaya girmiştir. Bu aşamada Mısır’dan başlayarak Lübnan ve Suriye; biraz öncü ülkelere göre geç de olsa Kuzey Afrika ülkeleri, Batı tarzı yeni edebi türler ile tanışmıştır. Bu edebi türlerden en yaygın olanı romandır. Mısır romanı ile en güzel örneklerine şahit olduğumuz bu edebi tür, çok geçmeden diğer Arap ülkelerini de etkisi altına almıştır. Kuzey Afrika’nın uzak ucunda bulunan Tunus da bu etkiden uzak kalmamıştır/kalamamıştır. Batıdan yapılan tercümeler ve kısa öykü alanındaki deneme çalışmalarıyla başlayan süreç, ilk örneklerinde yaşanan kafa karışıklığıyla beraber ilerleyen yıllarda tekâmül sürecini devam ettirerek bugüne kadar gelmiştir. Sonuç olarak Modern Tunus Romanı, bugün itibariyle bazı örneklerinin başka dillere de tercüme edildiği dünya edebiyatının doğal bir parçası haline gelmiştir.
Bu makalede Modern Tunus Romanı ve hikâyeciliğinin ortaya çıkış şartları, bunda amil olan etkenler ve ilk dönem örnekleri üzerinde durulacaktır.

Abstract
With Napoleon's Egyptian expedition, Arabic literature entered a phase that we can call "Modern Arabic Literature". At this stage, starting from Egypt, Lebanon and Syria; Although somewhat later than the pioneering countries, North African countries were introduced to new Western-style literary genres. The most common of these literary genres is the novel. This literary genre, the best examples of which we witness with the Egyptian novel, soon influenced other Arab countries. Tunisia, located at the far end of North Africa, was not/could not stay away from this influence. The process, which started with translations from the West and trial studies in the field of short stories, has continued its evolution process in the following years, despite the confusion experienced in the first examples, and has come to this day. As a result, the Modern Tunisian Novel has become a natural part of world literature, some examples of which have been translated into other languages as of today.
In this article, the conditions for the emergence of the Modern Tunisian Novel and storytelling, the factors that contributed to this and the early examples will be discussed.
