Abstract

Literary theory studies are carried out in two ways in general. Either orientation of the literary people in a country is identified or a certain orientation is identified to guide literary activities. The latter is the case for Post-Tanzimat poetry as it seems that Turkish poets somehow follow an experimental route. As an example, Garip Poetry, Nazım Hikmet and Necip Fazıl, who could be counted as a reminiscent of conventional poetry, are aware of the Western poetry and literary theories formally at least. İlhan Berk and Ece Ayhan, as poets of the Second New, introduced works ready for open-ended reading thanks to the perception they offer with poetic language and structure. In particular, Ece Ayhan deconstructed the language and used it as an “instrument of making opposition”. Similarly, İlhan Berk had such an attitude by means of meaning in poetry. In this study, a poem of Ece Ayhan is analyzed from a perspective of formalism and historicism.
