Abstract

The purpose of the research is to make the evaluations of the postgraduate dissertations in accord with some various criteria within the branch of life study in Turkey. Computer supported scan methods were used while conducting such researches on the dissertations. The dissertations were obtained via the Website of YOK (Council of Higher Education). 83 different dissertation paper-works were examined in total by using the scan method and content analysis. The data is obtained from the dissertations that were allowed to be published at International Centre of Dissertations and that were written between the years 1988 and 2015. Such data were analysed via the package programme named SPSS 21.0. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that most of the dissertations that were written within the branch of life study were postgraduate dissertations; most of them were prepared by female researchers; they were shaped by the consultation services received from male assistant professor doctor dissertation consultants; much more dissertations were prepared at the universities in Central Anatolia Region; and Gazi University was the first among other universities. Furthermore it was seen that a kind of increase of the dissertations within the branch of life study occurred between the years 2006 and 2011; the juries for the dissertations mostly constituted of 3 members and some assistant professor doctors; the titles were of 11-15 words; the dissertations mostly constituted of 126-150 pages; and the number of sub-problems varied from 0 to 5.
