Abstract

Regional imbalance is a common problem of both developed and developing countries. These imbalances have led to the emergence of many problems in economic and socio-cultural terms. The most basic way to be able to cope with this problem is to ensure a balanced development between the geographies and sectors of the country that is important for a targeted high growth rate. The main objective of regional development is to increase the income of that region from the economic aspect and to change the socio-cultural structure of the region from the socio-cultural aspect. Small and medium-sized businesses called SMEs, has played an important role in eliminating income disparities and injustices emerging with developments in society, both socially and economically negativity particularly in the 1970s and 1980s. This study shows the economic contribution of SMEs to Gaziantep with regression model. As a result of analysis, it is possible to say that SMEs in regional development play a very important role in terms of creating significant employment and value added for the regional economy.
