This role was inevitable for the freedom of an occupied country. The war of independence ended, but the desire of army to govern and rule did not. So, it caused a long term power struggle between civil sectors and military background. The tension between civilians and the military continued for decades. During these years, Turkey experienced many army-oriented interventions. But the military coups were the most dramatic ones. The newspaper’s presentation format of coups is like a photograph which brings the media, elites and militarism in one frame. Anyone analyzing this photo can easily see the feelings of these groups. This study aims to analyze the approach of Turkish newspapers to coups by using the method of content analysis. For this purpose, research will discuss newspapers’ (Cumhuriyet, Hürriyet, Milliyet) news and columns dealing with the coups of 1960, 1971, 1980 and 2016 coups’ weeks.},author={Uğur KÜÇÜKÖZYİĞİT},year={2016},journal={The Journal of Social Sciences}}
