Abstract

The Book of Dede Korkut, one of the cornerstones of our literature, is considered as a unique source to both world and Turkish literature. It plays an important role as a work of transition between dastan and folk tales. A child is a social being who has a very strong bond with the society s/he is in. Therefore, the biggest responsibility in shaping a child’s personal characteristics is of societies. In this study, it is intended to discuss the messages regarding children’s image in Dede Korkut stories. Qualitative research is adopted in this study. Also, in the scope of document review technique, 12 of Dede Korkut stories were analyzed using content analysis method. The stories were examined one by one in the light of the value of children in our culture. As a result of this research, it can be said that if our children are educated in accordance with tour cultural codes, they will grow to be more helpful for both their country and the whole humanity for that matter, conveying our cultural codes to next generations more efficiently.
