Abstract

Mythology is all of the pre-historic legends of nations that became stories. Mythological stories have always described transcendental and even supernatural events. Myths reflected the thoughts and psychology of antiquity and this reflections has reached today through art. In the early ages people pictured their fears, beliefs and stories on the walls of caves and on the stones. Those myths evidenced life styles and beliefs of the societies. Nowadays, mythological items in visual arts revived by being reshaped in many different designs. The artist subject to our work, Can Göknil, has done a lot of work with different techniques. The works that he exhibited are quite striking owing to the contributions of them to the presentation and fame of the Turkish mythology In this article, the mythological motifs and symbols used with the inspiration of Turkish mythology by the contemporary artist, Can Göknil will be examined.
