Abstract

In the age of globalization, meaning and scope of the concepts of sovereignty and territory have experienced a crucial transformation. In this new period, it is much harder for the nation-states to sustain their territorial sovereignty because in contrary to the former interpretations of the concept of sovereignty, now states cannot actively control all dimensions of politics within their own territory. Under these new circumstances, growing economic interdependence and the great advance in communication technology appear as highly functional tools to overthrow certain regimes. Today, societies may be much more easily provoked to act against the administrative authorities of their countries and as a result of non-violent movements of opposition, some national governments can be toppled and replaced with more favourable ones. Georgia’s “Rose Revolution” in 2003, Ukraine’s “Orange Revolution” in 2005 and Kyrgyzstan’s “Tulip Revolution” in the same year all of which are called as “Colour Revolutions” are the examples of such cases.
