Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine metaphorical perceptions of prospective teachers related to curriculum development course. The research has been conducted by qualitative analysis technique within the scanning model. The working group of the research consists of prospective teachers, studying in 4th grade of Primary School Teaching and Social Sciences Teaching in the Department of Elementary Education, Faculty of Education at Kafkas University in 2015-2016 Spring Term. Research data has been gathered within questionnaire form by the researcher. Prospective teachers are asked to fill in the sentence, ‘for you, curriculum development course is like/similar to…... because…’ in the questionnaire form. Content analysis technique has been used in the analysis of research data. Consequently, it has been observed that prospective teachers have deduced 62 applicable metaphors related to curriculum development, the metaphors used often are “tree, base of building, map, prospectus, human body, machine threads, ladder, teacher, counselor, water and cooking”. There are totally 8 categories by grounding on common characteristics of metaphors deduced by candidates. It has been determined that candidates have deduced different metaphors generally related to departments where they are educated.
