Abstract

In 18th and 19th centuries, Europe’s presentation of its own cultural values, social and political order to the other countries as a requirement for its mission of modernizing and civilizing those countries has served as a covering for the tendency of colonization of a white man and has justified this. This mission is also defined as the historical responsibility of white man, described as “white man’s burden”. In this context, proclaiming his own superiority, he is also in need of “saving” non-whites by including them into his own world. In today’s post-colonized world, this perspective preserve its reflection as “white savior figüre” in Hollywood Cinema. White saviors are the protagonist who rescue and help non-whites get out of difficulties and overcome their problems and reintegrate them into society. This study takes a look at white savior movies in Hollywood Cinema and aims to analyze how white man fulfills his historical mission (!) by saving non-whites in these movies.
