Abstract

The honourable religion of Islam rejects racism, deeming participation in cruelty of one's people and one's pride in one's people for characteristics not deemed appropriate by the Allah as racism. Indeed, the Allah has emphasised belief rather than race, thus showing all believers are brothers, revealing that being from different nations and peoples is only a means for meeting and uniting with one's brothers and becoming one community. Our Prophet Muhammad has also stated those who defend racism and make war and die for racism aren’t counted among the Muslims, and at every opportunity he has remarked "One who doesn’t wish what he wants himself also for his brother cannot be a faithful Muslim" to encourage brotherhood between the faithful. According to Islam as brotherhood is established between the Muslims, requirements of human relations in and with non-Muslim communities are also assured by ensuring security of their "lives, chattels and chastity". However, it is regrettably seen that European countries of the modern world conduct practices completely contrary to the content of the concepts of "equality, freedom, independence and justice" they claim to uphold, and encumber Muslims with the consequences of these practices. In this study we will deliberate on meaning and detriments of racisms and the taboo against racism in Islam, and we’ll discuss the awareness of brotherhood fostered by Islam and its positive results.
