Abstract

In this research, it is aimed to examine the spare time barriers of university students considering some demographic variables. 485 female and 298 male university students ,783 in total, participated to this study. “Spare Time Barriers Scale-28” was used to define the facts preventing the university students to take part into spare time activities. Mann Whitney U & Kruskal Wallis H tests were used on SPSS 22.0 for the statistical analysis of the data. At the end of the study, it is found out that lack of friends prevent spare time participation in mid-level whereas facilities, transportation, municipal conditions, shortage of information, monetary conditions, social environment and time factors impede the participation of spare time in high-level. When taken into consideration under the light of demographical variables; it is determined that spare time barriers of the students differentiated (p<0.05) previously according to the sports activities, gender, social class and departments that they study, but not differentiated (p>0.05) in terms of education type. Consequently, many obstacles keep university students from participating to the spare time activities and it is clear that demographical variables are crucially deterministic on the mentioned barriers.
