Abstract

Mobbing (workplace harassment) as one form of violence is a widely experimented phenomenon in the world and Turkey. Via analyzing the different versions of mobbing phenomenon in different cultures a comparative analysis has been conducted. Despite being an old phenomenon as a reflection of intercultural differences, mobbing has only recently started to be analyzed as a scientific research domain in a wide range of countries. Mobbing, in its conceptual meaning, relates to the key element that emerges with the unfair distribution of power. Although unfair distribution of power varies across different cultures, it can be analyzed via employing the power distance dimension harnessed by Hofstede. So as to manifest the cultural differences and similarities that gained value with the rise of globalism Hofstede has tried to identify the cultural dimensions. In present study mobbing phenomenon has been treated with respect to the dimensions of power distance, individualism-collectivism and femininity–masculinity and a national-scale comparison has been drawn within the framework of such cultural dimensions.
