Abstract

After eighties, studies on happiness increased with the development of positive psychology. According to Diener (1984), subjective well-being is a general assessment of the individual's life satisfaction and positive-negative effects. It is known that the sport is beneficial for human metabolism, nervous system and psychological health. However, no research has been found in the literature to examine subjective well-being of adolescents engaged in sports. The purpose of this study is to examine the subjective well-being of adolescents who are engaged in sports and do not engage in sports. A total of 208 adolescents (111 girls and 97 male teenagers) living in Çorum, participated in the study. The Adolescent Subjective Well Being Scale has been used in the study. In the analysis of the data, t test, Kruskal Wallis-H test and Pearson Moments Product Correlation analysis have been used. According to the results of analysis it was determined that the subjective well-being of the adolescents performing sports differ significantly from those who are not engaged in sports activities. In the study, it was also determined that subjective well-being levels of adolescents differed significantly compared to duration of doing sports. Doing sports increases the subjective well-being of adolescents.
