Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the violence occurred in football competitions from the viewpoint of football coaches and players. The study was conducted benefiting from the case study method, which is one of the qualitative research methods. Sample group of the study consisted of five professional football players and four pro-license holder coaches. In determining the sample group, typical sampling method, one of the purposeful sampling methods, was used. The data of study were collected by semi-structured interview method. The obtained data were analyzed by the continuous comparative method, a method frequently used in qualitative studies. As a result of the analysis, coaches and football players stated that they agree that educational background of football players and current football system of the country are significantly influential on the violence in football competitions and violence is seen in football competitions due to their failure to control negative emotions which emerge as a result of their determination to win. Also, it is concluded that improving educational level of coaches and football players and psychological assistance practices will be the most important factors to solve the violence in football.
