Abstract

This study focuses on dolin topography on the northeast of Sivas city. Study area is located on the west of Sivas Evaporite Basin and bordered with Kizilirmak River on the south, Sofular creek on the east, and Cermiksuyu on the north. Field survey is applied in 2013 summer to determine doline topography on the study area. Geological, topographical, meteorological, and remote sensing data are used for analyses. The obtained data digitized on ArcGIS 9.3 software and doline distributions are mapped. The study area has semiarid-semihumid and mesothermal climate. Bedrock is consisted of Lower-Middle Miocene aged gypsum and Quaternary aged travertine. The dolines on both gypsum and travertine have solution and collapse characteristics. The areas of dense doline formations have polygonal karst characteristics. There are 110/km2 dolines especially on the south of Beypinari village. Oriented karst is observed on the south of both Beypinari and Basibuyuk villages. Agricultural lands correspond to doline bases on the karstic areas. There are lakes and ephemeral lakes on some of the doline bases. Sinking streams are observed in some dolines like Buyuk Cukur. The dolines and other karstic formations are important for tourism. Sustainable use of the study area is possible for tourism purposes. Close location to Sivas city is an advantage of the area for local touristic activities and course trips of students.
