Abstract

This study gives a general view of the reflection of crime fiction in Spanish literature which was got off the ground with first crime story The Murders in the Rue Morgue written by American writer Edgar Allan Poe. Industrial Revolution, World War I and the Economic Depression have increased the migration rate from rural to the cities and indirectly its population have grown. At the same time the rate of crimes have multiplied. Police organization has established in the cities because of the urbanized families which were afraid of getting harmed by working class. In the 19th century with the Industrial Revolution the rate of literacy has been increased and the newspapers have begun to satisfy the reading necessity of public. The serial novels and crime stories have become increasingly popular among the public. Crime fiction firstly was known in Spain with the translations of English and French examples and in the middle of 20th century it has gained his originality. As for in the 21th century it has become one of the most discussed literary genre in Spanish literature.
