Abstract

Changes and transformations that we are experiencing today due to the fourth Industrial Revolution have caused many functions in organizations -such as production, marketing, public relations, and publicity- to alter. One such function on which the impact of this transformation is gradually growing is human resources management. For organizations, as the quality of the needed labour force is changing, the resources and channels by means of which this demand is met are also going through changes. With the developments in web technology, “newspaper job ads”, once the most popular channel of employee recruitment, are being gradually replaced by webpages and “professional networks" which are a kind of social media platform. These platforms, which cost little or none to use, draw organizations’ attention in that they can be constantly updated, provide an opportunity for virtual sharing, are open for multiple use, and are easy to access and use. Since the 2000s, the use of these platforms which serve to bring together the supply and demand has been on the increase. In this research, the panorama related to this change in Turkey has been presented by means of a comparison between the secondary data on employee recruitment process between 2000 and 2015 and the research findings regarding the year 2010. According to the findings of the study, it has been observed that social/professional networks, which were not among the preferred channels of the employee recruitment process in the 2000s, ranked fourth just behind the organizations’ websites in 2010, and that it moved up the list towards the top in 2015.
