Abstract

During the rise of the Ottoman Empire, the Muslim population who was re-settled to the conquered places, sought to return to Anatolia which they saw as their homeland as a social reflex. The parameters of this period were 1683 Investment Bec (Siege of Vienna), 1699 Treaty of Karlowitz, 1718 Treaty of Passarowitz and 1774 Treaty of Kücük Kaynarca. The events of the 19th century caused immigrants to migrate to the center of the Ottoman Empire. Particularly, the Crimean War and the '93 War underlay to migrations in this century. In this study, the main topic is focused on second half of the century,in which the immigrants took refuge in the Ottoman Empire from Crimea and the Caucasus, and their resettlement in Cankırı. The Crimean and Caucasian migrations to Cankırı in the mentioned period have socio-economic and cultural aspects, and are interpreted with a historical perspectives. Therefore, the study is aimed to hold a light on this period of Ottoman history with the example of Cankırı, which had not been assessed before. In light of this study, especially the Ottoman archives of the Prime Ministry, copyrights and examinations of the history are used. As a result of this study, it is observed that the refugees changed and transformed Cankırı.
