Abstract

Humankind shared the world with domestic and wild animals in every aspect of life. Animals were primarily perceived as preys and predator. Afterwards; animals were comprehended as the source of companionship, property and faith. The artefact also emerged through the animals inspiring features. The most important part of this artwork are the wall paintings and figurines made of terracotta There has been an increase in the construction of the terracotta figurines, with the introduction of the clay to human life during the Neolithic Age. A group of terracotta animal figurines of Sanliurfa Museum, the subject of this article, are the excavation finds dating from the Late Chalcolithic Ge to the Iron Age. Terracotta animal figurines are among the least studied groups of Archaeological works. It is estimated that these animal figurines are produced for the purpose of votive offerings as the themes of totem, the cult, fertility and productivity. The represented animals are mainly equidae, sheep, goat, bull, dog and bird figurines.
