Abstract

Istanbul has a cosmopolitan structure since it became the capital of the Ottoman Empire. Different religions and cultures are the rare cities that brought nations together. The most remarkable group in this cosmopolitan structure is the Armenian community in the city. The influence of the Armenians in social life, the relations with the Muslim people were been to subject for the literary studies. In this context, there are many Armenian characters in trade novels, artisans and bureaucrats in the novels written about Istanbul. Compared to the Greek Cypriots, Armenians were reflected more positively. Armenian’s intelligance, diligance and craftsmanship are the front plan In the image of a positive Armenian. The Greek women whose beauty and sexual orientation, the Armenian woman's productivity, professional orientation is widespread especially against in storşes and novels. These women, who are presented in the family concept, special tailor in the mansions, mansions and boats of rich Muslim families. In this way, according to other non-Muslims, especially Greeks and Jews, they were adopted within the social touch. Muslims have penetrated into Muslim families by establishing more intimate relations with the Ottoman society. These women have also been able to make contact with Western culture more quickly, sometimes with the family they work with. This study will be examine the images and social situations of the Armenian of Istanbul in the nineteenth century with literary works.
