ATTITUDES OF DETERMINE FIRST AND FINAL CLASS OF NURSING STUDENTS’ REGARDING TO GENDER ROLES

Abstract

This study was conducted descriptively with the aim to determine attitudes and the factors affecting attitudes regarding to gender roles of the first class and senior university students who have learned nursing. The sample of the study consisted of 301 students, including 193 first and 108 senior students studying at the School of Nursing of the School of Health at a university in Mersin. The data of the study were collected using a personal information form and Gender Roles Attıtude Scale. In the analysis of the data, Shapiro Wilk test, Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney U test were used. In the research, it was determined that the first grade students had a more egalitarian attitude than the senior students and the male students had a more egalitarian attitude than the female students (p<0,05). It was found that the difference between the students' family type, mother education and working status and Gender Roles Attitude scale point medians was significant (p<0,05). As a result, it has been found that students have an egalitarian attitudes on gender roles. In the study, proposals have been developed to address the factors affecting attitudes regarding to gender inequality.
