Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explain with reasons why Turkish children living in Germany should learn their mother tongue very well. One of the most important elements of the culture is that the mother tongue must be learned correctly by the individuals of the society that is the reason of its existence. In the 55th year of the migration, with the fourth generation of the Turkish immigrants living in Germany it is known that there are some problems with the usage and learning process of Turkish as mother tongue. Turks is a community in Germany that is no longer guest but immigrant and with the fourth generation, they are beyond millions. In this case, the teaching of the Turkish language as a mother tongue should be taken seriously and this should be regarded as a necessity. Within the scope of qualitative research, a data collection tool based on the interview method was developed by scanning relevant resources and taking expert opinion. The collected data were analyzed in SPSS and Excel programs. According to the findings, it is understood that the most important reasons motivating Turkish children living in Germany to learn Turkish are national emotions and emotional and cultural elements. However, the reasons for necessity of learning Turkish for Turkish children identified as to be able to use Turkish literature, to be able to understand Turkish culture and protect its identity, to establish better communication with Turkish friends and relatives in Turkey.
