Abstract

Quasi-experimental design was employed in order to determine effects of computer-aided environmental education on the students studying at the program of Computer Technologies. The study group of the research comprised 60 students studying at the second grade of Computer Technologies Program at Antakya Vocational School of Mustafa Kemal University in 2014-2015 academic year. 30 Computer Technologies students of them were chosen to be in the control group, and the rest 30 Computer Programming students were chosen to be in the experimental group. First, the environmental literacy scale was used in both groups as pre-test, and it was revealed that both groups were equivalent based on some criteria. Environmental education was provided with traditional method in the control group, and with computer-aided education method in the experimental group. At the end of the study, environmental literacy scale was employed as post-test. Environmental literacy assessment scale personal information form consists of four sub-dimensions which are environmental knowledge, attitude, behavior and perception. The data obtained during the research were analyzed by using dependent and independent samples t-test. According to the findings of the study, it was found out that environmental education caused a significant difference in favor of post-test in all sub-dimensions except attitude between pre-test and post-test mean scores of both groups. Consequently, an increase was observed in environmental knowledge, attitude, behavior and perception levels of the students having received environmental education.
