Abstract

Smart cities create more comprehensive, sustainable and connected cities for the benefit of urban dwellers, public administrations and the private sector, making traditional networks and services more efficient through the use of innovative digital technologies. Smart cities are aiming to improve the quality of life in the framework of sustainability, taking into account the limitations of economic, social and environmental resources and the needs of future generations. Technological innovations and developments in recent years have made it possible to develop numerous solutions and products that can be applied to the smart city. The main areas in which solutions and products are developed in urban areas are concentrated in areas such as transportation, energy, health, water and waste management. However, in recent years, the demand for urban needs (transportation, energy, housing, etc.) has continued to increase. The solutions offered by clever cities to solve the problems that arise in the cities and new approaches have helped spread the idea of smart city. It is the rapid urbanization which causes these needs to increase and deepen the problems. In this study it is assessed through indicators of smart city smart city applications within the framework of the said developments in terms of the European Union and Turkey. In this context, the level reached smart city applications for the EU and Turkey are intended to be evaluated over the said indicators.
