THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE LEVEL OF LEISURE SATISFACTION AND THE LEVEL OF HAPPINESS OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Abstract

This study is to determine the level of leisure satisfaction and happiness levels of university students and to reveal the relationship between these two concepts. 428 university students in total, 275 "Males" and 153 "Females" selected by purposive sampling have voluntarily attended the research in line with such purpose. Survey model has been used in the study. The sample of the study consists of students who are studying at Istanbul University. As a data collection tool in research, " The Leisure Satisfaction Scale ", which has been developed by Beard ve Raghed (1980)) and adopted into Turkish by Gökçe and Orhan (2011); and “Oxford Happiness Scale’’ which has been developed by Hills ve Argyle (2002) and the Turkish Adaptation was developed by Doğan ve Sapmaz (2012) were used. Shapiro-Wilks normality test has been applied to identify whether data had normal distribution, in the analysis of data MANOVA and ANOVA were used according to some demographic characteristics in order to identify differences between the level of leisure satisfaction and the level of happiness. Pearson Correlation was used. According to the variables of ‘’gender’’ and ‘’weekly leisure’’, MANOVA test results showed that there was significant difference the level of leisure satisfaction inventory in total scores (p<0.05 “prosoerity’’, ANOVA test results showed that there was a significant difference in the ‘’Oxford Happiness Scale’’ (p<0.05).In order to determine relations between ‘’Leisure Satisfaction Scale’’ and ‘’Oxford Happiness Scale’’ Pearson Correlation test was used and it showed that there was the medium level of positive relation between two scales. according to some demographic variables showed that there is significant differences between the level of leisure satisfaction and the level of happiness and it was found that the level of happiness increased as the level of leisure satisfaction increased.
