Abstract

Social depression occurred in the society after First World War and due to the changing balances in Europe, war and its effects. At that time, which is highly difficult for Europe, Bauhaus School was established in Germany to create an artistic union and make contributions to the society and industry through art. The principle of “basic art education”, which is the basis of today’s design works, was developed within Bauhaus. It was established to combine sculpture, painting, handcrafts and crafts, which are the different disciplines of plastic arts, as the inseparable parts of the new architecture. Bauhaus, which put forward a new education understanding, had important contributions and effects in art education. In this study, Bauhaus school and its contributions to and effect on Basic Art Education, which are the basis of today’s art and design education, was examined.
