Abstract

Some phenomenological-based claims about the conceptualization of "Abrahamic religions" are being put forward by those who advocate its legitimacy and authenticity. The "theological similarities" between Judaism, Christianity and Islam, believed to have originated from Abraham, constitute the first of the phenonemic basic claims. The second allegation of similarity is the “common story” and “common ancestor”, which is claimed based on the present historical story of Abraham in three religions. The center of the claim of theological similarity is constitute to the claim that three religions believe in the same God. It is understood that this alleged similarity to God provides a justification for associating the three religions with “Abraham”and describing as “Abrahamic”. When evaluated from the standpoint of phenomenological criteria, the conceptualization of "Abrahamic religions" and the use of this conceptualization in the academic framework are extremely problematic.
