Abstract

Mirza Celil Memmedkuluzade is one of the important names of 20th century Azerbaijani literature. As well as literature he also involved in activities such as journalism, play writing. Memmedkuluzade is one of the founders of school of realism in Azerbaijani literature. He also published a magazine called Molla Nasreddin between the years of 1906 and 1931 with occasional interruptions. The author published his first story in 1894 and wrote around forty stories in total. He was known in Azerbaijan as the "master of small stories" and influenced future generations, delineated the individual and the (Azerbaijani) society in various extent. Thus, in one of his first stories, Posta Kutusu (Poçt Qutusu), the relative positions of individuals from different backgrounds is examined. In this study Celil Memmedkuluzade's story named Posta Kutusu, which was published in newspaper called Şark-ı Rus in 1903 and has an importance for reflecting a personal as well as a social drama, is evaluated with regards to the plot, narrator, individuals, time, locality and theme.
