POLITICAL ORIGINS OF ETHNIC INEQUALITIES

Abstract

From the beginning of the twentieth century, issues such as the understanding of the underlying dynamics of ethnic identification and ethnic identity have attracted attention (Brand, Ruiz and Padilla, 1974). The interest in ethnic issues has led to an examination of the interrelationships among ethnic groups and many researches have been conducted in this regard. In other words; since the twentieth century, the emphasis on ethnic identification and ethnic identity has been an important variable in assessing individual behaviors and social events, and these variables have begun to be taken into account in studies conducted. Social relations between ethnic groups in Turkey in order to understand the need to either have been many studies in the field of social sciences in the world and these relations have been evaluated from the viewpoints of different disciplines. For the discipline of social psychology (Hogg and Abrams, 1990), which is the relationship between individuals and groups, the interdepartmental relations have become an important field of study, especially after the 1970s. Turkish and Kurdish ethnic groups, the two largest ethnic groups living in Turkey (Hoşgör and Smits, 2002; Merry, 1996; Yanarocak 2009, Stars, 2005) in political science in order to understand the social relationships between (eg Barkey and Fuller 1997; Education (eg, Derince, 2010), and history (eg, Akyol, 2006, Hakan, 2013, Özer, 2010) and sociology (eg, Hosam and Smits, and cinema (eg, Şen, 2009).Approximately one thousand years, these two major ethnic groups living together for social, political and economic aspects of naturally affected, some developments in the world and Turkey has led to a number of changes in the relations between these two groups. It is understood that the Turkish and Kurdish ethnic groups have influenced each other in this social and historical process and many studies have been done with the above examples of the nature of the relations between them, but it is understood that they do not see the value they deserve in the discipline of psychology.
