Abstract

Textbooks are an indispensable source of today's education and training activities. A good textbook that teachers and students use comprises the main source of the lesson at the same time. The textbooks having such a great importance are also important in geography discipline. In this research, geography textbooks in the Netherlands and Turkey have been examined in terms of physical structure and visual content by being compared with each other. Research in geography secondary education in Turkey and the Netherlands creates textbooks while one each from both countries constitutes the selected sample of the textbook research. Research is a qualitative research that document review method was applied and descriptive analysis was done. As a result of the investigation geography textbooks of secondary education in Turkey have been seen weaker than the geography textbooks in the Netherlands, in terms of physical structure and visual content. It has concluded that the physical structure and content of geography textbooks needed to be improved as soon as possible.
