Abstract

The members of the Qurayshin family with the origin of the village of Zeve in Tunceli and of the village of Yukarı Kayabaşı in Gaziantep come from the same ancestor. This ancestor is the dervish, who is a member of the Quraysh tribe coming to the Dersim region at the beginning of the 13th century from Khorasan or from Kirmanshah, and his name is Seyid Mahmud-i Kebir. This dervish who came from the family of Ahl-i Bayt also used the Quraysh agnomen so that the name of the Prophet's tribe was not forgotten. Therefore, the members of tribe were called as the Qurayshins. While some of the Quraysh tribe that came to Anatolia is settled in Tunceli region, some of them went to Anatolia. Some of them who stayed in Mazgirt migrated to Nazımiye with Quraysh after some time. Quraysh was married here and had seven sons. Because his son Haydar disappeared (sır olmak) when he was young, his descendants in Tunceli continued from the other six sons. Afterwards, Quraysh left Nazimiye together with his many talib. After visiting many regions, he finally settled in Kayabaşı, and had a son named Sadır Quraysh there. In this study, the traditions belonging to the Qurayshin family in Tunceli region will be mentioned. Some of the information used for this was obtained from the written sources, while the majority of that was obtained from the interviews which were made with the elderly members of the tribe.
