Abstract

Features such as being unique and different in fashion design are among the goals of fashion designers in product design. Today, the most fundamental element that reveals the difference of design products from other products is their symbolic values. Consumers who have gone the way of feeling like the person they want to be, have tended to structure product preferences according to symbolic values as well as functional and aesthetic values. The symbolic benefit of a product by individuals is based on psychological satisfaction obtained from this product. For this reason today, brands are building product designs on symbolic meanings that are associated with people. In this research, it is aimed to determine the difference through symbolic features of fashion design products from other existing products. The subject is limited to the fashion design, which is one of the industrial design areas so that the research can be carried out more clearly. The study is a qualitative study. Literature review is applied as data collection technique. Quotations were made and the data were compiled and interpreted according to the subject. As a result of the research; it is emphasized that symbolic features are more important than product function in this research. In this context, it is concluded that the symbolic meanings of products are used as a means by individuals for to be accepted by society and to satisfy their psychology.
