Abstract

Turgut Uyar, who is one of the symbol names, theoreticians, and the most important poets of the Second New (İkinci Yeni) poetry, passed two phases throughout his life. Being under the influence of Garip poets at first, as he stated, Turgut Uyar gradually made the transition from Garip to Second New felt. Turgut Uyar, in whose first poems the nationalist/syllabic and Garip influence was felt, sort of changed his course considerably and joined the Second New Movement with his poetry book named Dünyanın En Güzel Arabistanı (The Most Beautiful Arabia of the World) which was published in 1959. Although the influence of Orhan Veli and Garip follows a chronological course in the poems of Turgut Uyar, in general this influence is hidden between the lines of the most of the poems of Turgut Uyar. The influence of Orhan Veli and Garip shows itself powerfully in his books named Arz-ı Hal (Petition) and Türkiyem (My Turkey), which were the first two poetry books of Turgut Uyar and written in the period of time when the Garip influence was prominently felt in the Turkish poetry. In this article, the influence of Orhan Veli and Garip on the poems of Turgut Uyar, one of the important poets of Second New, will be examined.
