Abstract

Despite being defined as a solid in terms of its general validity, glass is actually a highly condensed liquid. Although it has no specific melting point it has a viscosity high enough to prevent crystallization. It is a semi-regular, inorganic melt-able product which, when brought to a low temperature the viscosity increases and it becomes more or less hardened; these changes occur continuously as it passes from a liquid to a solid state. Artists working with glass can create a wide range of technological descriptions that can reveal the production possibilities of glass by making a variety of technological, technical and chemical additions that can express these production methods. Glass is a very attractive material for the artist who has a good understanding of the character of glass, namely its multiplicity of production methods and the fact that each method is very open to being developed in regards to glass being an object of art. In this study, one of the methods mentioned is low-temperature firing in which the structural effect on the glass is reviewed. For low-temperature firing the importance of temperature control in the furnace is emphasized. Through technical analysis and the application process, consideration is given to the pre-firing preparation, that which needs to be attended to in the furnace stage, the interventions to be done during the firing, the management of the annealing and the evaluation of the results of the glass product which has been designed as an object of art.
