Abstract

Hasan Hayri was a Republican who contributed as a soldier to the foundation of the Turkish Republic. He had another political thought from the nationalist establishment which was in power of the Republic. He struggeled for more freedom for Kurds – Zaza. Therefor he was suspected of supporting the division of the Turkish state in favour of a Kurdisch state and was finally executed. In this article, I aim to prove that Hasan Hayri had no intention to divide the Republic and establish a Kurdish state, but to defend a freer and more democratic Republic. During the founding years of the Republic he supported Mustafa Kemal Atatürk both militarily and politically, and was never in favour of a separate Kurdish state. He believed in the Republic and defended democracy and freedom. His true beliefs will be revealed in this article proving the accusations made against him wrong.
