Abstract

Aim of the study was to analyze the prospective teachers’ attitudes towards teaching profession. The study was carried out with 86 prospective teachers studying as 4th graders at the departments of primary school teaching, social sciences teaching and mathematics teaching at Bartın University in 2015-2016 academic year. The research was in a survey model. A 5-point Likert scale with 34 items was conducted for data collection. For data analysis, frequency, percentage, independent samples t-test and one-way ANOVA were employed. It was found as a result of the study that there was no statistically significant difference between the prospective teachers’ attitudes towards the profession and their genders. Additionally, no statistically significant difference was observed between the departments that the prospective teachers studied at and their attitudes towards the profession. The overall attitude score of the prospective teachers was at the option of “I agree”. Therefore, it was concluded that the prospective teachers studying at Bartın University had positive attitudes towards teaching profession.
