Abstract

The contribution of literary texts to foreign language teaching, reading and meaning processes is an undeniable fact. Nevertheless, efforts to make the learner who is in the position of reader find the ‘aesthetic meaning’ with the help of several reading processes and strategies are put into force under cover of some priorities and variables, ignoring the aesthetic aspect of language in foreign language teaching. In this study, prospective benefits of reception aesthetics for foreign language teaching that puts the reader into the center are presented by means of a classroom experiment that renders literary texts as a topic of discussion so that learner at a specific linguistic level can express what s/he understands from literary texts.
