Abstract

Community-based tourism is a tourism model that supports sustainable development. Unlike other sustainable tourism types, it is a tourism model where local people have a voice in tourism development. Community-based tourism, which is a solution for reducing the negative effects of mass tourism activities prioritizes sustainability, local development, local participation in tourism development in the region, conservation of natural areas and natural life. The aim of this study is to determine the opinions of local people on community based tourism in Isparta and Burdur provinces of the Lakes Region. For this purpose, a questionnaire was applied on 453 people selected from the local community in Burdur and Isparta provinces through judicial sampling model and the opinions of the local people about community based tourism were tried to be determined. In the study, quantitative research method was used and student’s t test, ANOVA and Kruskal Wallis tests were used. According to the research results, it is determined that the people who live in Burdur province have a higher participation power and tendency to invest in tourism than the ones living in Isparta. In addition, it was determined that the residence times of the people living in the Region of Lakes increased as the residence times increased. The positive economic contagion attitudes of participants’ income generation situations from tourism, the membership of any association or institution related to tourism and positive developments in tourism sector differs according to dimensions.
