Abstract

Television broadcasting being carried out in our country for many years under state supervision and through a single channel, has begun to diversify with private broadcasting that started in the 90s. With this diversification, a new era has started for Turkish people who were only familiar with the broadcasting of the state channel. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of television on the process of social and cultural changes in Turkey from the begining of the 1990, when the private braodcasting started, until 2000s. Certainly, television is not the only factor in this change; there are many other factors, such as value judgments in society, education and environmental factors. However, as technological tools can reach a large audience quickly, they have a more significant impact on them. In this study, which is restricted to literature review, with reference to 90s television programming, it will be emphasized how television is incorporated into everyday life in Turkey and what television means for the social life of Turkish people.
