Abstract

The inevitable dimension of democratic governments is elections. Elections mean the participation of public will to governing process. Because the elections are the means through which the public decides who will govern the country and who will represent them in the Parliament. Moreover, they can change the government through the elections. Honest, fair, equal and open elections are an inevitable part of democracy. The first elections were held in 1877 in Turkey during Ottoman era. In this study; the events occured during the period of 2002-2019 are summarized. And the general and local elections held during within this period were also examined by studying the pre-election and post-election political situation, the propaganda done during the campaign periods of the parties and the election results. Also study the interaction between the general and local elections, voters were tried to be explained through voting preferences.
