In the first place of the unfavorable results of the migration is the accommodation. New settlements which have arisen from the need of accommodation bring about several problems. Throughout the history, the city of Kocaeli is always being affected by the migrations due to its geographical location and socio-economic situation. In this study, the impacts of migration on the settlements are discussed and Kocaeli is given as an example. In the beginning of the study, the migration is defined and the types, reasons and the results of the migration are explained. Then, after giving the information about the geographical location of Kocaeli, the situation of migration in Kocaeli and the unfavorable results of migration especially about the settlements after migration are pointed out by giving the example of some photos. The aim of this study is to inform about migration and explain the effects of migration on the settlements by examplifying Kocaeli which is one of the cities of migration. In addition, the study is concluded with including some of the suggestions to pay attention while the new settlements are formed.
