The validity of Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis was tested for Hatay using the annual data of 1990-2018 and time-series analysis. The Environmental Kuznets Curve (ÇKC) hypothesis accounts for an inverse-U shaped relationship between the environmental deterioration and the income level. To investigate the relationship between the environmental pollution and the economic growth in this study, (SO2) emission was chosen as the dependent variable for indication of environmental pollution, and GDP was chosen as the independent variable for indication of economic growth. Unit root tests were performed to show the stability of variables. The Johansen-Juselius co-integration method was used to identify the co-integration relationship. The long-term stability relationship between the variables was analyzed based on the co-integration test. It is found that there is a long-term relationship between the economic growth and environmental pollution in Hatay. In other words, it is determined that there is an inverse-U shaped relationship between the economic growth and the environmental pollution in Hatay, i.e., the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis is validated.},author={Ali DEVECİ-- Abdulla SAKALLI},year={2019},journal={The Journal of Social Sciences}}
