INVESTIGATION OF EMPATHY LEVELS IN SPORTS ENVIRONMENT OF AMATEUR FOOTBALL PLAYERS IN ELAZIĞ

Abstract

Empathy is one of the features for people to be able to live together. This is because the first rule of establishing good relationships with the immediate environment is to understand what they feel in their good or bad moments and act accordingly. Based on these thoughts, in our study, it was aimed to compare the empathy levels of athletes who practice team sports in terms of different variables and determine their empathy levels. The population of the study of covers amateur football players who actively exercise in the city of Elazığ while the sample of the study consists of 200 amateur football players, between 18 and 33 years old, who were chosen by the simple random sampling method. In the data analysis, frequency and percentage calculations were conducted while the Kruskal Wallis method, which is one of the non-parametric methods, was used for more than two variables comparisons. The level of significance was regarded as (p<0.05). As a result of the study, it was determined that the participants aged 28-32 had higher desires of playing one-to-one with their friends while making eye contact during the game compared to those aged 18-22. The participants with a high school degree comprehended football players characteristics based on the positioning of the opponent in a better way compared to those with an undergraduate degree. It was also determined that the participants with 16+ of sports years comprehended what their opponents would do by looking at their standing on the field in a quicker way compared to those with sports years of 1-5 years.
