Abstract

Elderly people need social environments in order to establish social relations. The research aims to examine the social relationships of the elderly individuals in terms of themselves and their relatives. The sample of the survey consists of individuals over 65 years of age who live in the household and their relatives. Elderly people often communicate with their children and spouses. Seniors primarily receive support from their children and spouses. 72% of elderly people have hobbies. 58% of the participants emphasized that they can establish social relations. 54% stated that they made a special effort to establish a social relationship. The elders stated that they had been chatting with their relatives and that they had visited the neighbors / relatives. All his elderly relatives are of the opinion that the elderly should be involved in social life. They listed the areas where they could participate in social life as neighbors / relatives and religious meetings. Relatives of the elderly stated that the members of the community had prejudices about old age and that the elderly were seen to be inadequate and that the elderly had problems in establishing a social relationship. As a result, it is thought that determining the opinions of the elderly and their relatives about the social relations of the elderly, and they will contribute to the establishment of policies towards the problems they face in adapting to the society.
