Abstract

As a place of worship of Islamic religion, mosques are an important element of cultural life. The meaning of the mosque in terms of the word, “the place where people gathered”. In addition to being a place where people physically meet and meet other social needs, especially by worshiping and gathering together, it is the areas where cultural and artistic events are brought together with the public. Masjid al-Nabawi, the first place of worship of Islam; The period in which it was built is quite simple considering the economic and cultural conditions. On the other hand, in periods when Islam was gradually spreading and blended with different cultures in different geographies, the mosques became more fancy, more ornamental, more architecturally well-equipped and diverse in terms of socio-cultural aspects, shaped according to the art and aesthetic taste of that culture. Throughout history, the mosques appealed to the spirit and the eye with the ornaments applied to the generations, domes, and wooden elements in accordance with the aesthetic understanding of the Islamic religion. This review will examine the writing and decoration features of the Zincirli Mosque, which was built in 1879 in the district of Ulus, Ankara.
