Abstract

An autonomous country of Karakalpakstan is located on the territory of Uzbekistan and has its own specific culture and lifestyle. Although information about this small country is rare, some of this information bears the signs of profound dependence on ideology. Thus, a novel Karakalpak Kızı (1963) (Karakalpak’s Daughter) by Karakalpak writer Tolepbergen Kaipbergenov is heavily influenced by the fundamental ideology of the country at that time. The novel depicts Karakalpaks’ life on the brink of Bolshevik revolutionary change on the wide territory of Central Asia. However, this life in the novel does not reflect Karakalpak traditions accurately. This study analyses the main differences between Karakalpak culture and Kaipbergenov’s novel Karakalpak Kızı. The analysis of the novel is focused on such elements like women’s role in Karakalpak society and Karakalpak folk culture.
