THE EVALUATION OF 9TH GRADE ENGLISH CURRICULUM IN TERMS OF TEACHERS’ OPINIONS

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the 9th grade English curriculum which was put into practice in 2018-2019 academic year according to the opinions of teachers. This research is a descriptive study in survey model. In this study, the elements, ‘Acquisition, Content, Teaching- Learning Process, Assessment’ of the 9th grade English curriculum were examined according to teachers’ opinions. In this research, a questionnaire, one of the quantitative research techniques, was used. In the analysis of the data, the opinions of teachers about the questionnaire items were given in percentage and frequency, the arithmetic mean of the views was calculated and chi-square test was used to determine whether the data differed significantly according to gender. The research data was obtained by using the questionnaire applied to 110 English teachers working in Malatya province. As a result of the analysis, it was observed that the weekly course hours were not sufficient to reach the aims; that the aims in the psycho-motor field were insufficient; that the number of students in the classes was too high to implement the program. It was seen that the level of acquisition of speaking and listening skills was lower than the acquisition of reading and writing skills.
